Stores and Shops

NYC is famous for shopping..... I usually do very little of it while visiting and this time was no exception..... but seeing the windows or part of the interior of some stores during the holidays can be enjoyable without spending a cent!

Upper West Side

Our first extended stay in NYC was on the Upper West Side and we really loved it there....Convenient and friendly area with many conveniences.... ESPECIALLY the subway station.... so handy!
The afternoon we returned home, John was watching a movie and this very scene popped up several times.... Lots of folks find it photogenic!

Walking Tour - Times Square - Big Onion Company

Each time we have been in NYC we have taken at least one tour with the Big Onion company.  We find them to be reasonably priced ($15) and incredibly well-informed.  The guides are history graduate students and always provide fabulous information about the area of the city covered.  We had avoided Times Square for the very reason that anyone avoids Times Square.... too crowded, hectic, and touristy..... but the interesting historical perspectives were worth the venture into the area on the "morning after" the big ball drop.   We were even treated to confetti flying as we walked since the wind picked up pieces that had stayed on ledges and roofs overnight!

Grand Central Terminal

Once an apartment in the Terminal.... now open for cocktails!
Part of the "behind the scenes" area I saw while looking for a "hidden" overlook....

Churches

Main Altar at San Damiano in Greenpoint Brooklyn

It certainly wouldn't seem complete to visit NYC without stopping by several churches.  There is a post about St. Patrick's Cathedral with photos separately, but I enjoyed these other two as well....

Bryant Park

Located just behind the Public Library, Bryant Park has a Christmas Market, skating rink and huge tree.... always plenty of spots to sit as well.... lots of yummy foods for sale at the market too....
